Peter Foldy - Bio

rollover

PETER FOLDY was born in Hungary and raised in Sydney Australia where he was influenced toward a career in music after forging a friendship with three brothers who would later find international success as the BEE GEES. Peter Foldy

After a family move to Toronto, Foldy enrolled in film school but supported himself by playing in rock bands.

When a music executive, Bill Kearns, heard some of his demos, Foldy was signed to Kearn's new label, Kanata Records. His first recording, "BONDI JUNCTION" quickly reached number one on RPM's Adult Contemporary Chart, received two Juno Award nominations and was a legitimate pop hit across Canada, also penetrating the US, Australian and the UK market place. An album entitled "Peter Foldy" followed.

Before long Foldy was lured to Capitol/EMI Canada, and the records, "ROXANNE" and "JULIE-ANN" climbed to Top 10 status on charts across Canada and the US.

When his Capitol deal ended three years later, Foldy moved to Los Angeles where a chance meeting with Tina Turner's manager, led to a deal on RCA's brand new Free Flight label. Foldy continued his musical momentum with "LOVE CITY", and "SCHOOL OF LOVE", songs he both wrote and for the first time, co-produced.

When Free Flight abruptly shut it's doors, Foldy decided to turn his attention back on film, selling a screenplay, HOT MOVES, which became a considerable theatrical and video hit in the mid eighties. Many say the story-line later influenced the film "American Pie".

More screenplays followed and in the early nineties Foldy began directing.

His feature film credits include "MIDNIGHT WITNESS" starring Jan-Michael Vincent and Maxwell Caulfield, "TRYST" with Barbara Carrera and Academy Award winner, Louise Fletcher, "WIDOW'S KISS" with former Foldy background singer, Beverly D'Angelo and "SEEDS OF DOUBT" with Peter Coyote.

His most recent project, "SILVER MAN" stars Eugene Levy, Joe Pantoliano and Daniel Baldwin. It was the winner of numerous awards including Best Film and Best Director at Planet Indie in Toronto and the Jury Prize for Best Feature at the Tambay Film Festival in Tampa Bay, Florida.

A compilation of Foldy's music entitled "PETER FOLDY/BONDI JUNCTION AND OTHER HITS" is now available through Pacemaker/EMI. The CD contains some never released tracks as well as a new Christmas song Foldy wrote especially for this release.

Foldy is currently in the planning stages for several film projects as well as an off-Broadway play based on a TV series that he created for Showtime in the US.

He is also an avid photographer and has had several exhibits of his work.

A CD of new music is slated for release in 2007.
